From an empty building
to a full table.
Robert Williams and Sheila Burns opened Pop's Place because they wanted to give something back to Pineville. They took an empty building on Military Highway, filled it with the smell of cornbread, fried chicken, and slow-cooked beef tips — and called it both a general store and a restaurant, because around here folks come in for one thing and leave with three.
The plates are homemade and the welcome is, too. KALB featured Pop's during Black Business Month, but the regulars had already figured it out: this is comfort food the way comfort food is supposed to taste.
